Exclamation HELP!! Spun rod bearing

I need help!

Today i was driving and mucked up my 3-4 switch
I put it in 2nd and....REDLINE!!!

after that i started hearing a knocking after 2500rpms. I asked a mechanic friend of mine & he thinks its a spun rod bearing. My question is... how hard is this to change on our cars & does the engine have to be out? any help is MUCH appreciated. I'm too strapped for cash to get a new engine. I was told that if i can do it myself it'll probably only cost $100 or so.

hmm well if you change your berings go with genuine honda bearings, they have that ceramic coating that nobody else has. i think for all 4 it'll run ya like $180. and now you don't need to pull the engine to do it.

ur prolly going to end up replacing the crank

think about it

u spun the bearing wahts connected to the bearing crank journal...if u didnt destory the crank journal ill give u a 100

if u just replace the bearing ull just spin it again right off start depending on how bad it is

replace the crank
get all new bearings or get a rebuilt motor if u dont know what ur doing

IF the bearing actually did spin its usually caused because the connecting rod cap bolts stretched or the cap its self stretched. If this is the case the head at min. will have to come off. best to pull the motor and fix it right

I am just curious, what does it mean when you spun a bearing? I took a basic engine cource, but I never went over anything like that?

Man you are gonna have to spend a lot of money...
Because you spun a rod bearing, the journal that the bearing is connected to would have also been marked.. The question is HOW BAD WAS THE CRANK JOURNAL MARKED. if it is not bad then you can take the crank to a machine shop and let them polish the crank for you and then replace all the bearings (both main and rod bearings) with honda OEM bearings. You will have to take off the head to do the repairs. So that means that you'll have to buy a head gasket.

However if the CRANK JOURNAL GOT MARKED BAD then your best bet is to buy a used motor on ebay, because the crankshaft is too expensive to replace. (About $450 +)

And also that is a lot of work involved to do any of the two above so IMO you should let a shop do it for you...

I thought you would have to get undersized bearings if the crank was getting machined since it would decrease the size of the crank. Maybe not.

Also I am still confused on the spun a rod bearing?

usually the rod cap or bolts will strech and this then allows the bearing to spin inside the rod as apposed to normally not spinning.
