D16Y8 hits revlimiter at 5,000 rpm
D16Y8 hits revlimiter at 5,000 rpm
I have a 1998 honda civic ex 5 speed with a d16y8. while I am driving the engine will hit the limiter at only 5,000 rpm. I have two engine codes a vtec and a evap emissions code. I changed the head gasket about 2,500 miles ago. the revving problem started about 500 miles ago. I have two ideas. one being the engine codes have caused the car to go into a limp mode. two the computer thinks the transmission is in neutral and is keeping it from revving all the way. The car runs perfect until it falls on its face at the 5000 rpm limiter. no backfire, no surging, no loss of power. its just like the 7000 rpm limiter. I cleaned the vvt solenoid and valve body thingy with no change. I will later test the solenoid and post the results. Any ideas on diagnosing the problem or previous experience with it?
Re: D16Y8 hits revlimiter at 5,000 rpm
It could be a fueling issue. Is it bouncing like it would a rev limiter or is it holding like it would be cruising, and just not exceeding 5k? I'd check the fuel filter to see if it's clogged. The EVAP code could indicate that it's running lean.

it's bouncing just like a revlimiter. I dont think its a fuleing issue but not a bad idea to check the filter
