Effect of increasing rpm from 6800 to 7200

Engine: D17A sohc vtec
What is the effect of increasing the rpm from 6800 to 7200 or even 8000?

other then blowing the engine?

Anyway, you probably should refresh your understanding on engines torque & RPM's...

This is a good start.

Ultimately, there's 0 reason to increase a cars rev limiter unless you've significantly altered the cars torque curve.

km/h = Kilometers per hour.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilometres_per_hour

Going from 180 to 240 means that you would have increased your velocity by 60 km/h.

Stretched rod bolts, increased bearing wear, rod damage. All more likely.

I just want to increase the top speed.
The computer come in at 180 km/h.
What is the effect of changing the ecu to delimit at 240 kmh

Re: Effect of increasing rpm from 6800 to 7200

in most cases, esp with a civic, hp drops off after the car's original redline. so you wont get any performance and end up destroying the engine in the process. theres no reason why you need to increase top speed over 65mph unless youre moving to germany. these cars already go at least 100mph if not faster, which is more than enough to land you in jail with a torn up license.

No need to ever go faster than 180km/h and your only gonna do damage if u rev it past the limiter.

Get "taller" tires. You'll loose acceleration, but you'll increase your top speed.

The problem your going to run in to is that you are simply going to run out of torque. as in the car simply doesn't have the power to over come drag at higher speeds. Raising the rev limiter isnt going to help, because you haven't altered the cars torque curve.

As in, with out modifying the engine a good amount, you'll never get your civic to 240kmh (~150mph)

Re: Effect of increasing rpm from 6800 to 7200

From you first post i assume you have a civic ex is it manual or auto? Why do u need to increase the rev, a stock civic ex can go over 180 km (112 mph) If you want to go even faster get an lx manual tranny, which has longer gears=higher top speed
