Bizzare Turn signal issue
Bizzare Turn signal issue
Hi, so i just joined the forums because I am out of solutions on what I can do. any advice would be great as the situation has been on ongoing for a few days now.
Vehicle: 1999 Honda Civic LX 4-door Sedan, AT, 170K miles (everything is bone stock)
Problem: So my rear passenger side turn signal went out a few days ago which is not a big deal, I replaced the bulb and it was fine for 3-4 days. i go to work one day and all of a sudden I develop hyperflash again. i checked after I got off to see what was going on and the bulb is fine, i said screw it and swap another bulb in to find out that that bulb does not work either. I then proceed to swap another bulb in and that doesn't work again. So at this point, I have swapped in 3 different bulbs, all of which were the 7440 bulb size that the civic uses. the next thing I tried to look at was the turn signal fuse under the steering column, looked fine but I replaced it anyway, still won't turn on. I resorted to thinking it could have been the hazard/turn signal relay and replaced that as well, but it didn't do anything either. I also proceeded to test out the hazard button to see if that was able to work separately from the turn signal, but it also didn't work on that corner. So at this point, I chased down every related ground in the trunk and even cleaned off any grounds related to any sort of light in the engine bay as well in the off chance that could be affecting it, once again, doesn't work. I proceed to take a multimeter to see if I'm receiving any power to the pigtails and I am. I then measured on the working side and I'm receiving the same amount of power when the car is on, when hazards are on, and when the turn signal switch is active. The ground portion of the pigtail also measures at 0 oh ohms and voltage as it should, but on the off chance it could have been the pigtails, I swapped them anyway. everything works on the driver side but nothing does on the passenger side. It's also worth mentioning that i checked for corrosion on the wire ends where the pigtails click into place and checked the pigtails themselves, everything is spotless but I still cleaned them anyway. I even moved the connector portions of the pigtails inwards to ensure contact with the bulb itself in case that could be it. But here is where it gets even more weird, I went back after 2 days of troubleshooting and removed the ground closest to the light that goes directly to the connectors as it seemed a little crooked and that seemed to fix it for 2 days, but out of the blue, it goes out again. Thinking it could be the spot where the ground is located, I tried taping it to another portion of the car to see if its the ground wire itself, and it still read back as 0 ohms and volts on my multimeter. If anyone has any sort of solutions, that would be great because i even took it to 2 dealerships and explained all this and they told me they don't even know what it could be. I'm thinking of splicing the ground going directly to the light into another ground, but I'm scared that I could possibly short out another portion of my lights.

Re: Bizzare Turn signal issue
Check continuity from the pigtail to the front of the car. I’m not sure where the turn signal wires run (under the carpet, above head, through door jamb) but you might have an intermittent short in that connection that is causing it to go out.
While checking you might need to push pull along where the wires run.

Re: Bizzare Turn signal issue
Ill check continuity between the fron as well, is there a reason I can't compare the driver side rear to the passenger rear? And I was initially thinking the ground too, but I cleaned off every related ground and surface to the signal. My next best guess could be the wire itself. Do you guys think me splicing the suspected ground (the ground directly under the trunk latch) into another would possibly solve it?
