2004 Honda Civic ex driver side door water leaking [solved]
I have a 2004 Honda Civic ex and I keep getting this wet spot around this area only. There’s no water coming in because it hasn’t been raining at all for a week and I do have a floor cleaner that can suck up water and I did it before the week started and it’s been getting wet still. I did kind of notice it gets more wet when the car is running and being used so could something be leaking and getting it wet?

Windshield? Body seam?, I know there's also a couple grommets behind the fender in that area
what would be the best way to check for this? I haven’t had time to remove the carpet and see underneath it to see where exactly it’s coming from but I feel like that’s my best option to check and get a better idea of what’s happening

Unfortunately you're going to have to pull the carpet.
Try jamming your head under the dash while someone sprays a hose at the windshield and cowl. You might see where the water is coming in

Check the hood hinge locations where they bolt on to the body - on both sides while you’re at it.
Also check the grommet / seal where the hood release latch goes through.
As Colin42 stated, you will most likely have to get someone to spray the car with a water hose while you are inside the car checking for water.
One fix that I’ve read about was using silicone caulking to seal the areas.
I’m still at the point where I’m cutting out the rusted floor panel area and haven’t gotten to the point where I’m sealing up the car. It’s in my garage so I’m not worried about more water getting in.

Hey, just wanted to see if you were able to figure this out? I'm having the exact same issue.. It happens when it rains for me so I had the front windshield resealed and thought that'd solve it but it did not, want to see if it's another issue before i pay for a whole new windshield to get the sealing redone properly.
re: 2004 Honda Civic ex driver side door water leaking [solved]
Hi.
the leak turned out to be some old seam sealer that failed.
the leak area was at the area where the hood (when raised) met with the back of the front quarter panel.
if you lift your hood and look in that general area, you should be able to see what I’m talking about.
both sides were leaking so I loosened the front quarter panels and also removed the hood to give myself some working room. If the quarter panel doesn’t want to move, check the bolt that is only accessible when you open the front door.
then I peeled off the old seam sealer and put some new stuff on.

Thanks for the quick response! I was so excited to get some direction on this i ran outside and ran a hose toward that area and sure enough started seeing water in the floorboard, is there anyway you could give me a picture or something of what you repaired? I'm not very experienced and I'd like to do it myself to save money so any more info helps. Thanks again and I appreciate the help.

I found a pic online and circled the areas where you should be looking. You are looking for some old seam sealer (kind of like caulking, but it is a harder material). Mine was old, dried up and cracking. Once you remove the hood and loosen the rear of the front quarter panels, you should have enough room to fit your hand in there. Peel off any loose seam sealer and clean the area (I used brake cleaner) so that loose materials and dust / dirt is removed. Then apply new seam sealer

Just wanted to respond incase this same situation happened to anyone else. I ended up pulling my fender out to re apply that sealant like was suggested but it did not solve my issue. It did get me on the right track though so thank you very much for the help! For me it ended up being the little rubber grommet that plugs the hole the hood release cable goes through, I had to take the panel that goes over the hood latch out and peal up some layers to see it was just out and after having someone hold a water hose over my car I confirmed that water was indeed coming in through the hole. This is the hole water was flowing in from for me. How it looked after i reinserted the rubber piece

I did have the leak looked at at a honda dealer. They did test the sunroof and atleast told me it wasn't having any issues.
Turned out to be a waste of money since they didn't even find the issue.
Re: 2004 Honda Civic ex driver side door water leaking [solved]
What I meant was the sunroof drain dumps directly on top of the hood release cable. Water will then run down the cable directly into the cabin if that grommet isn't seated properly.
