Re: disable 30 second auto lock

I updated my question post to make it a little clearer.

I have tested the following scenarios.

1. Unlock doors with remote, don't touch any doors for 30 seconds --> car automatically relocks after 30 seconds
2. Unlock doors with remote, open any door before 30 seconds --> car does not automatically relock
3. Unlock doors with remote, open the trunk but don't touch any doors for 30 seconds --> car still automatically relocks after 30 seconds

Desired output: Unlock doors with remote, don't touch any doors for 30 seconds --> car stays unlocked and never automatically relocks

The scenario I am trying to avoid is if I unlock the doors with remote, don't open any doors, pop open the trunk, accidentally close the trunk with my keys in it, and the car doors automatically relock, leading me to be locked out. This has happened to me once, but only at home. However, during winter, I travel through a lot of remote, desolate, snowy places with no cell phone reception and few to no cars. It would be very dangerous and possibly deadly on the chance that this happened in those circumstances.

Re: disable 30 second auto lock

I mean that if I unlock with the remote, but I don't open any doors for 30 seconds, the car will automatically relock itself.
this sounds correct to me. Verify in owners manual?
Wat is the issue?

The issue for me is that I want to disable the auto relock so that all locking only happens manually.

My car didn’t used to do this, even before any actuator failures. And I was able to disable this feature following your instructions after the first actuator replacement! But not after the second actuator replacement.

I appreciate you taking the time to look at this. Is there anything else I can try to program it for manual arming only?

I know this is civicforum but I have the same model year as OP, and the steps you recommended actually worked the first time. I spent hours reading threads on Honda forums of all sorts and haven’t been able to find anything else for my model year.

I really appreciate you taking the time to try to help.

The 30 sec relocking is correct operation. No info about customizing this feature.
Look in your owners manual under Remote Transmitter. I used an online version of 04 accord sedan owners manual, info was on page 86

Re: disable 30 second auto lock

@ezone , I checked my manual on page 86 and it is as you described.

But aren't these instructions you described the process to switch to manual locking only? I followed them after the first actuator replacement and was able to switch from auto to manual arming so I know that it worked for me before. Or was this for some other purpose?

Insert key in ignition switch, then remove it (all the way out)
Insert key in ignition switch, then remove it (all the way out)
Insert key in ignition switch.
You should hear the system beep 2 times.

Check it out, make sure that worked.

Re: disable 30 second auto lock

Ok check your owners manual some more. If you can't find any information about customizing the settings you want then .....well....read about what its supposed to have and what the factory programmed it to do. (i know that stuff was being phased in with 05 van and 06 civic but i dont think it was available on accord yet in 04.........maybe im wrong, hell i cant even remember if i wiped my *** or washed my hands 10 minutes ago).

Does your car do more or different than the owners manual described ?

now you're probably looking for accessories added later on, like remote start or alarm or automatic power lock controller...... and radios and omg theres so many things with wires you can buy for cars these days is amazing lol
basically im looking for unusual boxes and wiring and more typically near the drivers side of the dash that was added by a human......sometimes its obvious, sometimes not so obvious,
Some people wouldn't know what wires are or anything else above the 2 footrests lol

l installer talents may vary from 18 y o joe pliers to amazing ........a friend of mine used to do those national audio competitions and his award collection included a couple 5 foot tall trophies bla bla bla and his day job was installing for a local stereo and accessory shop ....top notch work for cust willing to pay, and he did deliver. .

since you got some kinda response from the procedure for a civic , seems pretty likely it could have a dealer installed honda accessory
A honda accessory security system installed later would have added another small user guide to the glovebox...and iirc it had all the info you should need as the average car owner----including any sequence info to change settings if available...........but..... seems like most were lost years ago
Check honda.com site , owner services type areas im guessing nearby where youd find owners manuals ? google search and i find a lot of printed paper type stuff in goggle images

1. Unlock car with remote
2. Don't open door for 30 seconds
3. Door automatically relocks
Yea that part sounds like relock is operating as designed.

06 was the first year (8th gen) Civic (us/can) started getting customizeable auto lock/unlock associations with shifter and ignition switch
but automatic RElock remained 30 sec.
Without looking, I think 08 was the first year for accords to gain similar features. [citation needed]

And some people like to add atermarket stuff to do things the factory didn't.
