Driver's Door Lock stopped working
So here's the problem:
When using either the switch by the lever on the driver's door or the remote lock/unlock button, the door lock on the driver's door doesn't lock/unlock. It moves a little bit, but not enough to do anything. Sticking the key in the outside of the door and turning works, as does pulling the lock up or down by hand, but it seems whatever electronic gear runs it is not working anymore. The passenger door works fine.
Does anyone have similar experiences or know how to fix it? I have the Haynes manual, which probably tells me how to replace the actuator or whatnot, but that will probably be absurdly expensive. If I just have to clean something or reconnect some wire because this happens to a lot of people, then that would be sweet.
Thanks.

Any idea where I can find one of those? I paroused online for about 20 minutes and didn't find anything; I really don't want to go to the dealership unless I absolutely have to; everything these is about triple what it should cost.

ok, so i got the part (that website had $15 in shipping, so I went to the dealership: $27). I have my door panel off, got to the old actuator, unplugged the wires...but I have no idea how to get the thing out. I can't really see it because its on the edge inside the door. On the new one there look to be 2 'snaps', but there's no room to get to where they would be to undo them, and there's no room to move it 'left' (towards the passenger seat, facing rear of car) to get it out. If anyone's done this and can give some advice, please help.

I looked through the service manual and only saw testing the actuator. It may be in there but I could not find it. The crash estimating guides say .3 hours with door panel removed for the actuator replacement time. Take your time not to break anything.

yeah i have the Haynes too. It doesnt say anything about removing the actuator, but turns out the actuator is bolted to the latch, and there are instructions for removing that.
Anyway, I got through it all (thanks in part to the DIY linked above, thanks CraigW), but apparently its not just the actuator. I might need to relube the cable or something, because when the doors get locked electronically, the peg goes down most of the way, but when the motor turns off, it pops back up almost to the 'unlock' position. Pushing it down as well as using the key externally has enough force to push it down, but not the motor. Has anyone had any experience with it getting clogged or anything like that?

update: nevermind! It works fine now. I don't know if the actuator was the problem or somewhere in changing the actuator I fixed the gunked up connection or what, but its working now....im not really complaining. Thanks everyone who helped.
