Please help. Lost car key. What do I need to get the car going?
Please help. Lost car key. What do I need to get the car going?
So I finally lost my car key and I dont have a replacement. But i did have to replace the locking cylinder in my driver's side door, so I have 2 replacement Honda keys, but they dont fit the ignition of the car.
Is fitting a key easy? I know there are tumblers, but I've never done something like that before. There's probably also the option of replacing the ignition, but I have never done that either. I guess I'm missing work tomorrow.
And if anyone has any suggestions, please post a YouTube link on how to do it myself. Thanks!

the ignition lock can be retumbled to match the door key, however you wont be able to use the key in the trunk because that still needs the original key., and the door key will need to be programmed to the immobilizer. which is typically dealer only.
the immobilizer cuts fuel, so if you wanted to you could always just hotwire your car and deal with the green key flashing on the dash

Check with your local Honda dealer, they usually can make new original keys based on the VIN, might need to bring proof of ownership in, still need to get the car there for programming.
There are some pretty well equipped mobile key makers that can also make and program a key for you, usually for less than the tow to the Honda dealer to get the key programmed.

Plus programming the key for the immobilizer functions so it will start the engine.
Replacement locks that required different keys will not work with an original key.....but locks can be retumbled to match the original key and code (not all mechanics are proficient at doing lock work either).
For additional fees of course.
