Spare key question
One of my spare keys does not turn the engine over on my car. It unlocks the door fine and turns the car on in the ignition, but the car doesn't start. My other spare, my original, and my valet key all work. Anyone know what might have happened to the one key that doesn't???
It's probably because the key has a transponder chip in it that communicates with the car. It's a security feature. So, duplicate keys must be ordered from Honda and programmed properly.

its cause the key needs a chip that sends a signal when you try to start the car... its a safety feature honda started to use a couple years ago. so ya if you want a spare you would have to goto the dealer and get a key from them. not sure if you have to order it or if you just get a blank key with the chip inside and make a spare with that tho.

The key is an official Honda key; it was in the glove box when i got the car. Someone just explained to me that his 2000 si came with a similar key that did nothing but open the door too.

It's not the valet key is it? Of course even the valet key is supposed to start the car. Your Honda dealership should reprogram the key. Just take all of your keys to them so they can reprogram that one and test all of them.
My 01 LX is the same way...
2 master keys (black) and 1 valet key (grey) that opens the doors, starts the car but won't open the trunk or unlock the folding seat, or lock/unlock the trunk controls. Now, if only the Civic had a locking glovebox...

I do not know about you, but I got two pairs of keys and one valet key. That is how is should be and if you got a EX you got two keyless remotes.
