Re: 5w-20 or 5w-30

First off Honda wouldnt tell everyone to use a certin grade of Oil unless you needed it. Second I used 5w-30 and higher I found that it makes a diffrence in VTEC engagement being smoother with thinner oil (since vtec is engaged by oil the faster it can travel and ect. makes a diffrence). Id suggest to go with what Honda says or even use that grade of syntheic oil but syntheic is for "High Performance Applications" and since I think that 90% of the ppls around here dont have 500+ hp it is almost useless to waste 50+ dollars on an oil change. And Syntheic oil doesnt come from dinos its made by man. Just chaning your oil ontime should do you fine with the right weight!!!

Re: 5w-20 or 5w-30

Just keep in mind Redline is not API rated. Warranty could be affected as emission parts. Redline in a Civic is alittle overkill for the avg. driver.

I use 5w-20 synthetic on an 03 Si and was wondering if anyone had opinions about synthetic blends? Are they worth any more than a regular/conventional oil or is it just trying to get extra $ out of using the synthetic buzz word?

both either one should be fine year around
I use the 30wt in the summer too and the 20wt in the winter. I use PP and Mobil filters. So far so good.

You could use Edge 5-30 as it is a thin 30 in any Honda that calls for 5-20 without any worry. Just change it on time a Honda will last and last.
