06 Honda Civic: Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror, W/Compass [solved]

Hello everyone,

I installed an Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror, W/Compass (08V03-SDA-100B) in my 2006 Honda Civic Coupe EX. I followed the Bernardi Parts install manual (linked below) for guidance on the installation. The mirror worked fine the first night and on the second, it stopped working altogether. I checked the 1A fuse attached to it and it was blown. I went to AutoZone and purchased a replacement fuse, but it is still malfunctioning. thinking I had damaged the mirror, I purchased another one, but that one too is not turning on. I was wondering if anyone had this issue before and what things I could look for to get it working again.

Might just be a junk part. Blowing the fuse means it pulled too much power

as stated in the initial post, “Thinking I had damaged the mirror, I purchased another one, but that one too is not turning on.” That’s why I turned to the forum for help/guidance.

Personally, I would try a 2A fuse next. Found another guide online for '12-'15 and that sub harness had a 2A fuse.

that’s a great tip. I’ll grab some from AutoZone in the morning and let you know how it goes.

Normally I wouldn't promote this idea but the step from 1A to 2A is very small.

I have an update. The 10 A fuse in slot 36 was blown. I also replaced the blown 1 A fuse and got the mirror to power on again. I fixed it yesterday and it's still working this morning. I'm in a little bit of a new pickle because some other stuff is not working. The lights behind the HVAC buttons, the steering wheel controls (audio and cruise control), and the blue accent light don't work now. I'm hoping to find the solution soon.

How about fuse 14 (7.5A) in the under-dash fuse box?

I wish I had schematics for the mirror so I could help. My schematics make no mention of the auto-dimming mirror.

No worries. I appreciate you helping me spitball some solutions. Surprisingly, I'm having fun trying to solve this.

I guess since it was an addon it wasn't in the main vehicle breakdown. It plugs into the 6-pin accessory port in the fuse box. I wonder what fuses or wires that port connects to beyond. It's odd that all my lights are now out. lol

Update:
Just replaced 7.5 Amp fuse #14 and all of my lights are now functioning! Thank you so much for helping me. I really appreciate it. 🙏🏾☺️

If only we knew why that fuse popped. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.

I agree. I was very confused these last few days about this. Everything seems to be holing up fine tho *knock on wood*. I am going to be installing some foglights this weekend that are pulled from an Si. Hopefully, they won't be as problematic as the mirror was.
