Canadian '07 5-spd DX-G Coupe - key/fob (re-)programming

Hey all ... I took a quick look here under 'DIY - Electronics' and don't think my failure to be able to get my car into key/fob (re-)programming mode is related to any 'Immobilizer' functionality (FYI - this car does have stylized "Platinum SECURITY" labels [they look 3rd party / not Honda] added to most every body opening on the car, so, the car may have had some alarm system mod prior to my ownership ... could this be an issue?).

I'm concerned that I may be forced to seek out local Honda dealer assistance (and their use of some proprietary 'HDS' tool ... a task they would charge 1/2 hour of labour for, in my case $75~CAD), as I recall reading in at least one online source, and, seemingly confirmed by them.

However, I've also found a couple of YouTube videos and other online-sourced key/fob re-programming articles that suggest the 2007 (8th Gen.) Civic key/fob programming can be dealt with by the DIY'er ... all using essentially the same approach:

- key/fob into ignition sw., turn key from pos. 'O' (OFF/Locked) to pos. 'II' (ON), wait 1 second, then press 'Lock' (or 'Unlock') button on key/fob, wait 1 second, then turn key to pos. 'O' (OFF/Locked [or pos. 'I' (ACC.?) accomplishes same end?) and wait 1 second.
- repeat the entire above sequence two more times.
- key/fob into ignition sw., turn key from pos. 'O' (OFF/Locked) to pos. 'II' (ON, for a fourth time) ... now the electric door locks should 'cycle' (Lock/Unlock) indicating that the car is now in key/fob programming mode ... press the 'Lock' (or 'Unlock') button one more time to (re-)program this particular key/fob (if it is needed, or not?) ... any other key/fobs to be programmed should have their 'Lock' (or 'Unlock') buttons pressed at this time (within a few [<10?] seconds) and they too will be programmed to be functional with this particular car.

I've tried the above procedure a few times w/o success ... even adding in a preliminary step of Lock'ing / Unlock'ing the car doors using the armrest switch after I'm inside the car.

One YouTub'er stressed the importance of waiting a full 1 second at each intermediate key/fob turn step ... especially the interval prior to the fourth 'Lock' (or 'Unlock') key/fob button press that should produce the door locks 'cycle'ing event ... still no luck.

So, should I be able to get my car into key/fob (re-)programming mode myself? Was there some mid-year manufacturing transition or market (Canada) difference that would account for being forced to pursue the HDS tool route on a 2007 (8th Gen.) car?

... in order to deal with a previously working, now non-functional OEM Honda key/fob? (due having had a good battery out of it for just a little too long?)

Thanks, FFF

If it had some aftermarket alarm system installed there's no concrete way of figuring out what's wrong or if you can get it to work again.
My suggestion would be to get rid of the aftermarket system and return the car to stock configuration, fix any hacked wiring.

Colin42 ... thanks for steppin' up with your Reply ... I have never investigated the potential presence or type of aftermarket alarm system / add-on, if any, so, I wouldn't even know where to start looking ... perhaps I will need to bite the bullet and approach a professional alarm install shop for assistance in ID'ing the alarm system status, and, with your mitigation notion(s), and / or, see if the Honda dealer can figure it out ... enough to get 2nd key/fob working at minimum.

Posting here, I was more interested in determining whether I should or should not be able to get my 8th Gen. Can. '07 DX-G into key/fob programming mode myself, as a DIY'er, all other factors being nominal / stock.

Thanks again, FFF

Unfortunately the newest civics I've owned were 05, I would think you would be able to reprogram it if it wasn't for the aftermarket system.
look under the dash and behind the kick panels for a black box about 4 or 5 inches across, wires that look "added on". Anything stuck to the windshield/dash that doesn't look factory?

Colin42 ... ... just these labels at most every body opening ...

I called the 800 # on the label some time (years?) ago and was unable to obtain any information about the 986131 # on the label or what the company / label / # represented ... if I recall correctly, apparently this alarm service (if that's what it was) was no longer monitored / current / in existence. OK ... I'll try looking on the driver's side under the dash ... will get back to you once done. K Mc
