Hello, I lost my key fob and car key at work and wanted to disable my key fob. I am contemplating between replacing all locks/ ignition or just getting doors and trunk lock replaced without replacing ignition since I still have another key and to avoid the extra cost. So is there anything I can do to make the lost key fob useless?

If you still have a working fob, simply reprogram that one to the car again.
Any that are not present during programming will be erased from memory.

I do not have another fob, lost our only one.
I was looking online at buying a replacement key fob. But I'm a little confused. I originally had planned on keeping the original key for ignition and having doors and trunk rekeyed along with disabling key fob. After speaking to a locksmith they stated I had to change the ignition when changed door and trunk keys. Is that true? Are there any alternatives to going to dealer and having everything changed? Thanks in advance

The fob can be disabled by disconnecting the receiver OR programming another fob.

Someone else having a working key means you would need to change all exterior locks (doors and trunk if equipped).


The ignition could be an iffy situation depending on things.
Was the lost key a 'clone' of a current key? That becomes a relevant question.

The dealer can (or a very well equipped locksmith) can erase key codes electronically from the immobilizer system memory and reprogram all current keys to start the engine, this way the immobilizer system would not allow the engine to run using the missing key........ EXCEPT if the missing key was electronically cloned from a key you have now it would still start the engine.
