My head unit/audio system/infotainment system has this screen that says "Software Update" on the top with a 'There was a problem reading the CD-ROM Device. Please switch off the vehicle then restart to retry'.
I've tried:
1. Unplugging the battery for an entire day
2. Holding down the start button on the car
3. Holding down the power button on the unit itself
4. Holding down all manner of buttons on the front for 20+ seconds
I can't afford to pay for whatever software they're trying to sell me, please just help me get my audio fixed

Re: Head Unit Software Update Error
Thoughts: It could be attempting to boot up using whatever files it can 'see' available. Make sure the CD slot is really empty, make sure the USB ports are empty (not even a power cord), and may as well make sure nothing is connected to the dlc (obd2 diag connector).
for diag menus hold down the power home and eject buttons.
idk what to look for, you're on your own. Be careful, you can really mess things up in there.
