Engine "Pull" Seems Weird
Wow...I'm definately not a car expert by any means, and before I bought my new little civic, I had a really old civic ('91), so I'm not sure if I'm just not used to driving my new car...
It seems as though when I'm driving down a major street, when I hit the gas to go, the car goes off at a certain speed. The problem is (and maybe it's just me and human error) that when the car gets like past 2500 rpms it starts to "pull" really fast, the rpms seem to increase noticibly faster than before it reaches 2500rpms, and then eventually changes to a higher gear.
It only happens at low gears, like between 1 - 2 or 1 - 3... Either which way, it could possibly be just me slightly pushing the gas harder...but either way I'm not sure. I keep watching the tacheometer while accelerating and like I said, when it goes past 2500 in a low gear, the car seems to pull a lot more and finally shifts gears when at around 3000-3400rpms...
Any ideas? Do y'all actually see what I'm saying? It's kinda hard to describe.
Help/ideas appreciated. I'm hoping, again, it's just me not being used to driving a nice new car...either which way, could it possibly be there's something wrong with the car?

ummmmm, if he said "it shifts gears..." i'll guess it's an auto

So you would think that my "problem" would attribute to VTEC kicking in? That would make sense...I guess.
You are all correct. Our gear ratios are made with less power on the low-end and more power on the high-end. You would have more response when you are in a higher gear than at a lower gear.

I guess I'm not quite 100% sure what y'all are saying with torque and power, but if y'all think that the car is fine (and others do it), then I guess I'm okay
I'm just used to driving cars that have very smooth acceleration, and no matter what RPM they're at, the acceleration seems to stay relatively more steady than that of my Civic. Thread
