malfunction indicator lamp

can anybody tell me how to get this light to come off. the weirdest **** happened yesterday when i got off work. The light just came on for no reason. this happened once before when i put my CAI on. What is really strange though is that yesterday was exactly a year when the light came on before. I looked at my receipt from the dealership when i took it to them last year to get it checked. They charged me 40 bucks, then i found out from a friend that you can turn off the MIL yourself by disconnecting the negative on the battery and some other stuff. Somebody please respond. I am not trying to take my car back to the dealer so they can fix the problem in 10 minutes and get another 40 more dollars from me.
