I knew it was gonna happen but damn. 82k miles and I can't even put it in reverse or 5th.
5th gear was popping out now and then and theres been a semi grinding noise comming from the tranny since about 35k. I need to get it fixed ASAP, but getting it rebuilt is gonna cost around 1200 and I don't have anywhere near that kinda cash. Does anybody have any #'s or web sites where I might be able to find a tranny? I'm in southern california if that helps.

Having it rebuilt is probably your best bet unless you can find one from a wrecking yard in trustworthy condition. I'm guessing your going to have a hard time finding one thats already rebuilt/reman'ed sitting on a shelf since its a fairly new tranny. Sometimes you can buy one thats been imported from Japan. I did a google search on 'jdm used transmissions' and found a few places, try it. One place was here: http://www.cherry-auto.com/. I've never dealt with them so I cant recommend anything..
BTW, I've heard that this type of problem can sometimes be related to a linkage problem and not internally inside the tranny... dunno.

Sorry to hear about the situation your in. Since your car is fairly new the odds of finding a used/rebuilt tranny are kind of low. I would definately check with wrecking yards though to find out if they have any good transmissions from damaged 2001+ Civics.
Make sure you choose a reputable shop if you do decide to have your tranny rebuilt. Getting a rebuilt tranny by a shop that does poor work will leave you in the same situation your in right now...I know this from experience.
Good luck.
