Maint Req'd keeps on blinking then turns off?
i have noticed this before, but it seems like recently the "Maint Req'd light" blinks for a long time and then goes away.... is this a problem. or is this normal. The light doesn't stay on, but when i start my car up, the Maint Req'd light will blink for a while and then would go away. I haven't noticed this before, so i'm just worried. anybody else had any experience with this?
Alright, I just posted a thread asking a similar question the other day. Your thread will get locked (mine was locked fast)! Anyways, here is what I found after getting off my a** to get the manual out of my car and find out about the maint. req. light.
Those who responded to my thread, before it was locked, said to look in the owner's manual (makes sense). I read the whole thing the day I bought my EX, but I obviously forgot about the page that explains why our maintenance required light flashes.
There is a page in the manual that says that the light flashes for a couple of seconds when turning the key to the accessory position. This is when your car has under 8,000 miles or when you won't need regular maintenance for some time. If you are between 8,000-10,000 miles though the light flashes 10 times after turning the key to the accessory position. It is programmed to do this to remind you that your car needs servicing (first oil change/rotate tires) when your engine hits the 10,000 mile mark. Once you hit 10,000 miles the light will flash continuosly. It won't stop flashing until you take it in for the maintenance and have it reset.
The maint. req. light is just there to remind us when scheduled maintenance is approaching. Two flashes mean that your car isn't in need/or need serviceservicing soon. Ten flashes mean that you are a couple of thousand miles away from needing to have your car serviced. More than 10 flashes/continual flashing means that you are at the point of needing service or you are past the set mileage.
Hope this helps and if anyone flames you realize that your not the only one who this happened to. I failed to look in the owner's manual and I pissed some members off. Just remember to always go to your owner's manual for help before posthing a thread. Many times the answer will be there.
