7440 bulbs for front turn signals
hey y'all
i searched for this but couldnt find it.
Heres my predicament. Im gonna clear my headlights. After i clear my headlights i need to get amber bulbs.
Now - the correct bulb is 7443 amber. This will light up amber at 5W for normal. And then blink at 21W when i turn.
Question to the board:
If I stick in a 7440 bulb (same size - but single filament instead of double) what will it do?
a) not light during normal operation. Will not light up until I turn on the turn signal, at which time it will blink at 21W
b) It will stay on all the time at 21W and stay the same when I activate the turn signal and not blink.

hehe - if thats what it does than its not a problem - its actually what I want to happen.
see ... if i stick in an amber 7440 bulb - then the whole front of the car will be super white... until i have to turn - then you see amber. but at all other times its just alll hyper whites.
This way - it can look cool (all white) and still be legal (blinks amber)!
thanks dude

guys, I am not sure where you are from, but I am from Cali, I have checked the traffice law of this state, amber and white front signals are both legal. for the rear, it has to be either amber or red. About "Fuse" said that he had 7440 at the front and they operated like normal, I really dout that...

ok, 7443's when your lights are on and you turn the turn signal on it blinks like this 5w/21w/5/21/5/21/5/21 etc, well i think fuse is trying to say that they just blink on and off
7440=turns on only when turn signal is on, doesnt turn on when u turn on all the lights
7443=dual filament, turns on at 5w when all lights are on, then 21w when turn signal is on
BTW i have used hyperwhites for sale at $15 shipped obo, email: shuor@yahoo.com

Ok... I know alot of you don't know this cause we are all in the western hemisphere..
But Philips makes a mirrored finished bulb that lights up orange. When it is not in use it is silverish/mirrored... when it is in use it is orange.
I've been pondering on how to make these work on our cars.. and ANY feedback is appreciated.
The euro specs on these bulbs is PY21W.. The bulb has similar socket and shape as the US spec 1156.
This product is NOT approved for the US market.. but then again, what cool euro lighting is?

ok, on the 7440 bulb, it has to do with which way you put them into the harness.. one way will make them light up all the time, another way will make them blink. also make sure you take the metal things on the bottom of the bulb and bend one so they are both on one side..if this is confusing pm me and i'll explain.
Hey, this was a great help for me. If I get 7440's and tweek the bulb a bit I can do that only comes on when I actually use the turn indicator. That's Great!
