Rep Power: 0 I swear this car......
Hey everyone,
I am looking for some advice on my 02 civic ex. I work at a shop and I swear civic are like bad luck to me. After some insurance problems and a tire smacking into me, YES INTO ME!! my car starts sounding like its in reverse all the time, especially when I downshift, so I had a technician replace the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and pinion bearing. Since the car would make a whirring noise while in neutral with the clutch engaged and go away when disengaged, then the problem got worse as I described the car sounding like it s driving in reverse. So 300 bucks later I have decided its the trans because there is nothing else to make that noise(the sounds of gears turning as if they were not lubricated). I have 39500 miles on my car with no extended warranty. And I took the car to my dealer b4 with 12500 miles and they first told me the sound was normal(the whirring noise). then I tried to make them check anyway and they said my car was too low to get on the lift. I do have coil overs but I never raised it and took it back to them. Does anyone think I could have the trans replaced under warranty. btw I have only done a couple burnouts and my syncros are fine as my gears dont grind, plus its a manual... how do you blow a manual trans, I am not a maniac and dont do stupid erratic things, I am really frustrated at the situation as I have no money to spend on anything... any input is highly appreciated! thank you in advance

Rep Power: 0 You may be out of luck on the warranty issue. I know hindsight is 20/20, but you should have raised it to get the dealer to fix everything under warranty before.
As for what you should do now, take it to another shop (preferrably transmission specialists) to see if they can find the problem... if not, then take it to another if you have to. Avoid dealerships though, cuz post-warranty repairs are mad expensive at those places.

Rep Power: 0 yep, 3/36 on powertrain too... its the reason I got the extended warranty on the LX (I bought it used). Its an 01 bought new in 2/02 by the previous owner. 24k in one year though (lots of highway driving). I want to drive this car without worries of only having 12k left on the bumper to bumper and powertrain warranties... especially with what I've been reading about from people that have had issues with the 7th gen...
Honda Care 7/100k with 50 deduct -- 850 bucks and it didnt matter how many owners the car had before me, as long as it was under the 3/36...
I'd guess you dont have a leg to stand on, since you are out of warranty. Too bad Honda doesnt do a 5/60 powertrain like most everyone else does... Heck, I asked a local dealer about the TSBs on the 01 coupe and he told me I had to have the car brought in before the 3/36 expires for them, and they had to verify that the car had those problems... I've experienced that exhaust hitting the car after going through a puddle only once, but once is once too many when there is a TSB... good luck on the dealer reproducing that...
