New Transmission
My civic has 39,000 miles on it. I purchased it with16,000 in june. it is now jan. Suddenly my car would not move while i was driving one day. I would put the car in drive. The odometer would move..but the car would not go. I towed it to my deale. Merchant Motors. And they did some testing and could not figure out what the problem was. They sent it to the Honda Dealer. (grappone) . After testing, I have now been told that i need to come up with 3,900 for a new transmission, and 75 an hour for 5 hours for labo. So I just bought this car in june. For about 14,000 and now I need to come up with 4300 to fix this problem?? I do not know much about cars, but i would like to know if this is normal for a 2001 vehicle???

Here's a suggestion: Go to your dealer (or more than one), ask for the service manager, and request a "goodwill consideration", as described below. It looks like you should be eligible for one since you've had the car while it was in warrenty, and it is very close to the warrenty mileage limit. As I understand it, a goodwill consideration means that Honda pays for the parts, and you pay for labor. That should save you some of the cost, but it still sucks. Good luck. If Honda says no, take it up the chain to the regional people.
