Some a$$hole hit my mirror...what should I do?

My mother woke me up today nice and early to tell me two cops were outside my house today around my car. I thought to myself "Here we go AGAIN". But, to my surprise, someone had busted my mirror off my car because I had to park on the steet last night to avoid a toggle between cars this morning. Well, I guess someone had seen and reported it, and they had the plates. Im guessing it is was high school kid because it happened during the school hour rush. The plates are only a town over, and now I am awaiting being called in for a report whenever they get the guy.

My question is, what would you do?

If I get insurance to help, they will probably want a deductable, right? Im not about to pay 250 or 500 (not even sure what mine is) just to fix mirror. I called Honda and it will only cost 70 for the mirror. (ONLY 70 dollars? Ha) I can install it easy myself.

Or, are there any cheap aftermarket mirrors, possibly ones with turn signals that I should check out? But I am only interested in these if I can get some already painted black. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I feel your pain! My car got rear-ended 3 1/2 weeks ago...with me in it no less. When I spoke to my insurance company, they stated that if I put the claim in to them, since the damage is over $1000, then my insurance rate would go up. They told me to file the claim against the other person's insurance company. This is what I did since I have over $3000 in damage to my car.
If you can do it, file the claim against their insurace company. Let them pay for their stupidity. Depending on how long it takes the shop to fix the car, you may be able to get them to pay for a rental car as well. Good luck!

Tell the dood you want the money to buy and get the mirror painted, and that you'll save him the install cost plus insurance.

If someone got the plate down just get them to pay you directly, yeah.

If you read the first post, xzykotic says he might have to pay the insurance deductable of 250 bucks. Why pay that for a 70 dollar part and risk getting his insurance rates increased... the did a hit and run, so he'll most likely agree to this.

Your dumb...

What I said was...If the guy that hit him has to pay...He should get the money from him to replace a 'stock' mirror and then go buy something else that he might really want to replace them with (like LED style)

If they got is plates he will have to pay or you can sue him. Try and get his name and address if you don't already have it and you can go to his house if the police don't do anything. But $70 is not worth telling the insurance. If it was a kid go to his house and be "your kid hit my car my nieghbor got his plates and the police said it was your car. So I guess you owe me some money or we can get the police and insurance involved."

If the police don't do anything and they won't pay, just smash their mirror and leave, you know the police won't do anything. j/k don't do that. if they don't pay up it's only $70
