Problem with instrument cluster
I installed my indiglo gauges about 6 weeks ago and encountered no problems afterwards. Yesterday morning I started the car and all the needles stayed in their original positions and never moved. Even the trip computer was dead. There was power to the Indiglo gauges but nothing else. I started the car to go home from work and they were fine but died on the way home. Could this be connected to the gauges or is it an electronic problem with the instrument cluster. Will Honda tell me that my warranty is void because I opened the instrument panel to connect the gauges.
My honda dealership told me if I didn't have to remove the needles to put the gauges on, everything should be fine.
But your problem sounds like the power may just not be hooked up. Go back in there and check all your connections. Could just be a small problem (Fingers crossed)

Problems with the instrument cluster
Hey guys,
I know you posted these messages back in 2002. But I'm hoping if you are still around, you can offer some suggestions. I have a 2002 Honda Civic EX, stock. I guess this isn't a prevalent problem with Civics. But my Civic is going through the same problem. There have been three separate occasions where I would turn on my car and the instrument panel wouldn't activate. All the needles stay at zero. The only light that would be on would be the "Brake" light and it looked as if the instrument panel still thought the car was turned off. I took the car twice to Honda (they couldn't reproduce the problem the 1st time...they saw it the second time) and they charged me $80 to reset some gauge control module on the car. That of course didn't solve the problem. This car has also had both headlights go out and had to be replaced. I mean, besides this, the car runs fine. But I'm getting really frustrated because I don't want this car to die on me. Can you guys offer any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.

The only way the cluster would just die like that would be if the plugs on top were disconnected, or not enough power from the battery was getting to the cluster. Just open the bezel and make sure the two big plugs are seated right. May help to unplug them both, wait, and then plug them back in. Unplug, plug in the blue one first, then the green. You should see the needles moving up and down for a few seconds. See if that helps. Otherwise, it's a problem with the car wiring or power distribution system.
