Rep Power: 0 Valve Cover Painting = Check Engine Light
I removed, painted, and replaced the valve cover from an 02 Civic Coupe with another member of this board. When we started the car back up the check engine light was on and it won't turn off. This is going to be a show car and we can't very well have the check engine light on all day in the booth.
Anybody got any ideas on how to reset the computer or what we did wrong?

Rep Power: 0 Thats really strange... I can't really say much because most members have done that and had no problems. I thought it was a simple process. All you did was unscrew the two plastic screws right??

Rep Power: 0 Nope, that's just to paint the plastic cover, I'm talking about removing the metal valve cover underneath that and all of the components attached to it. Remove that and you get to see all of the springs and arms and lots of standing oil.
Any clues?

Rep Power: 0 I'm with GoinToSema....
We took off the actual valve cover, not just that piddly piece of plastic that says HONDA...
Had to take off the coilpacks, and unhooked the connector for the coilpacks so I could take them off...I wouldnt think that that would thow a CEL though...
We had just installed an oil pressure gauge and A/F gauge as well. After reinstalling the painted Valve Cover, we noticed oil pressure was high...like...at idle it was at about 40psi, and WOT jumped to 100 PSI...it slowly went down..but not to where it was PRIOR to doing the valve cover....
Any clues?
Thanks!

Rep Power: 0 Just took the car out to get the custom stereo work done. The light turned itself off after running for a few minutes. Hopefully it'll stay out.
Attached is a pic of what it looks like under the hood so far (cropped to hide custom parts we're introducing at SEMA in Vegas.

Rep Power: 294 That's not a bad way to attract a crowd at a show....leave the light on...people will notice it..."ooh, did u see that cool check engine light in that civic over there?"

Rep Power: 0 The car will be under an alternate source or power. 1 Really freakin huge AC converter. We'll just pull out the plug and pop it into the floor. Stereo, DVD, and lights will be on and booming.

Rep Power: 0 Kman thats just to try to remind you to take it in for a regular checkup. You can easily reset this yourself and it shouldnt come on for ablut another 10 or 15K turn your ignition on but dont start. Hold down your trip reset button and then start the car while holding it down. Hold it for a few seconds. It shouldnt come back on the next time you start it.
