Rattling while driving

I have a 2002 CIvic EX and noticed that when i drive i get a rattling that sounds like plastic.. i dunno its hard to describe... It sounds like the car is splitting in half like its cheap or something... is the DIY trunk rattle something that will correct this? does anyone else have this problem and if so, how did you get rid of it?

Well first off you'll probably get a post from someone to tell you to do a search,........... you'll see.

Anyway if its coming from the rear deck panel, then its a common problem with the 7th Gen, its most likely the "3rd brake light". Mine did this when I bought mine back in November, (I have a 02 EX) I took it to the dealer and they put some kind of tape in it. It worked for about 2 days and the rattle came back. I ended up pulling the whole rear deck out, removing the tape the dealer put in and wrapping the "3rd brake light" on the outside with commercail double sided foam tape,(you can get the stuff from Office Depot, or Staples). No rattles since, and its been about 3 months.

I try to have a sense of humor about this 7th gen civic but, most of the time it really pisses me off. But, it still gets me to where I need to go. And, in the end - good or bad - it's just a car. As I write this my car is in for new struts. F'in hysterical!

My roof inside my car rattles (above my head, and at the back), the back sounds like plastic rattling together, have somone ride in the backseat so they can see if that helps you..

yeah i had this problem when i first got the civic in 2001. believe it or not most of the rattles have settled, with exception to the rear deck which is the only one i need to fix.

also the trunk will rattle around the braces behind the license plate, the factory does not put any caulk/silicone there. just open the trunk and look directly behind the license plate on the inside, you'll see two medium sized funky shaped holes. press on the metal and you'll see that it will flex easily. just put a bead of silicone in the crack there and it'll be good.
