Rep Power: 0 LX Launch Technique / Shift Points anyone?
I have been driving my girl's civic more and more, and i think i have a pretty good feel for the car now.
it's peppy (heh..), i really love the gearbox, very easy to shift quickly, but its kind of a strech from an H22A
anyways...i am just wondering if anyone has any advice on optimum shift points, this is an LX, so no vtec. I was also wondering when the peak power points are (in each gear, if possible). Hell, if you guys have any dyno plots of stock (or near stock) civic LX"s feel free to throw them up.
Also, what are you guys launching at? She is running the stock hubs and tires...so no insane revs for me.
any help appreciated, thanks guys =]

Rep Power: 0 I donīt know what the max torque on the LX is but the best shifting points are when you reach over 90% of the max torque. In the VTEC engine this is over 5000 revs, the non-vtec should be lower. The trick to keep a car accelerating fast is shifting in the points were torque wont drop too much when shifting. Of course the tranny has a lot to do with that and the civic is made for fuel economy, yet its fun to drive

Rep Power: 0 hmm, no tach on my Civic DX-G (Canadian base model with A/C, no VTEC), so I go by rough feel and the speedo....I'm probably revving to about 3000-3500rpm on launch, and shift 1-2 at 50km/h(30mph), then 2-3 at 90-95km/h(55mph)....those are basicly redline shifts, if I hold it any longer the rev limiter kicks in. Never went fast enough to redline 3rd yet, tho I think that's at about 140km/h (87mph)...wouldn't really want to go that fast in my car anyway cuz the stock tires are going...

Rep Power: 0 i have an EX, but if you want to take off in an AT car, place your left foot on the brake and press it about halfway or so, then press the gas halfway down, and when ur RPM starts to raise a little, release your left foot. now depending on the car and everything, you will become familiar with how to do it. so just try it out at every STOP sign, and you should be set.
