mileage question
mileage question
ok i just put $10 of gas in my 2k2 ex coupe 5spd (which equals out to 7.7 gallons), supposedly it filled my tank up, cause the gas meter was at 19/20 of the "tick" marks, so i set the trip odometer to see what mileage i'm gonna get, i've only driven 35 miles since i put gas in, and my meter is already at tick 13/20!$ wtf is up with this i've been noticing i have to fill up more and more often lately!

i dont know if u have the same problem i do, but my gas guage is so unreliable, its all over the place. but i know i can easily get 300 miles out of one tank of gas regardless of what the guage says.
yea, the gas gauge is on crack or something.. mine goes nuts too.. like it'll go down like 3 tick marks all of a sudden, but then remain there for like 70miles.. now i just rely on the tripodometer
Yes...the gas gauge is cheap in my 2k2 Civic too. Actually, for my 94 Accord, the gas gauge also doesn't read full tanl of gas...so I conclude Honda made cheap gas gauge....
Should they just take off the annoying crazy little gas gauge in 2003 model.....
so no one will complain abt inaccurate gas gauge anymore!

The gas gauge may just be the root of the prob. Over a 6 month period, my mpg has averaged just over 29, but <30. There was a recall for 01 gas gauges, check out NHTSB for 02's.

You cannot judge the milage on your car by the gas gauge. It doesn't matter if you have the most accruate gauge or the most screwed up one. You must go by milage compared to the amount of fuel you put in, cost of gas is no factor here, this is the best way to judge your milage.
1. Run the tank as empty as you can
2. Fill the tank up, until the gas pump nozzle klicks off, (don't look at the price)
3. Write down the amount of gallons (10.6 gal for example)
4. Reset your tripodometer to zero
5. Run the new tank of gas as empty as you can
6. Re-fill the tank and divide the milage on your tripodometer by the new gallon amount. This will give you your MPG's on that tank of gas.
7. Keep repeating this process, make sure you reset your tripodometer after evey fill up
If you don't fill up your tank everytime you get gas, its next to impossible to judge your milage, $5 here or $10 there won't work. The fuel gauge is not a factor here, its only there to give you a general idea when to buy gas.

LOL I haven't filled my tank in a mth, but yeah the gas gauge is on maybe I should fill it. But Yeah I get 33+ but I need to put in some Chevron with Techron to clean my system out never been done, maybe I can get the 40 mpg back

well I agree the gauge is on crack becuae I went to work the light came on I left work the light was on then I went hauling a$$ down the on ramp the light went off and the guage went up to abou 1/8 of a tank so I dont know whats up with the gauge
my gas light came on today, i drove about 5 miles with it on then filled it up at the gas station. it took 11 gallons to fill it up. the gas tank holds 13 gallons. so 2 gallons left when the light comes on? that's like 60-70 miles! weird huh.
