Not always starting up?
I have an 02 auto civic coupe w/ 6000 miles in it. Sometimes (in the morning or afternoon....engine cold or hot, any time) the engine does not start. I have to take out the key and do it again or sometimes press the gas slightly to rev the engine high. Does anyone have this problem too? I don't think it's the battery, since the car is only 3 months old.

my car engine died twice since i had the car...one happened a while ago, i couldnt start my engine (the engine is still HOT). i solved the problem by taking out the key and put it back in again.
Second time (Last week), i stopped at a stop sign (for few seconds) and then when i ready to go i let my foot off the brake pedal and push the gas pedal, then i was like "WHAT THE FU**?"....no responce, so i try it again, no responce...then again, i took my keys off and then put the keys back in and the car runs OK.
So after there accidents, i took my car to the dealer, they said my valves are too LOOSE, so they adjusted. However, i was thinking my car die because of the valves?
but anyways, my car runs FINE now, just take it to your dealer and if u have warranty then it's FREE

Jeez i had the same problem and my dad was thinking i was beating the car or sumptin. But my car does sometimes take a couple of secounds to start and, here i thought it was just me
every day when i start my car for the first time , i have to crank it for a couple seconds. every couple of weeks it seems to take a little bit longer to turn over then it used to. i dont know if my car is just age-ing ( 35,802 miles so far) , or if its just turning to ****. oh well

another answer besides the key's chip .
the gas tank on your car is pressurized. if you are below a 1/4 tank of gas it can take a second or so for the tank to charge. this is real common in winter. to beat this problem keep more than 1/4 tank of gas in your car, or insert the key and turn it to the on postion but do not turn the motor over. if you do it right the vents and radio will be running if they are turned on . watch your gas needle move up from empty. once it has stopped in the middle turn the key to start the engine. this will help stop the starting problem if the chip in your key is ok. I agree, it could take time to re pressurize the tank/lines. The other reason it takes our cars so long is because, it takes a few seconds from the time that you turn the key till the computer understands that is the proper key for the car and turns on power the the PGM-F1 relay (fuel pump relay).
