Camshaft PS P0344

So I have a camshaft position sensor a circuit will that cause all cylinders to miss fire. I just changed timing belt, cam pos sensor, plugs and ignition coils. On my way to work and car would Rev over 3000 rpm did it all way home (about 100 miles). Decide to take my car to auto zone to put on tester and I got all those reading's but later my car ran fine? Rev over 6000 and everything I just have the base 1.7 04 civic lx

Re: Camshaft PS P0344

Make absolutely sure the connector for the cam sensor is actually plugged in all the way and latched

Was a genuine Honda cam position sensor installed, or was it an aftermarket part?

Re: Camshaft PS P0344

Those cam / cank sensors seemingly are very susceptible to dirt / moisture / blue moon on tuesday ECU issues.

Highly suggest unplugging the sensor and giving both the connector and the sensor a good shot of electrical contact cleaner or MAF cleaner and let it dry. Be sure to listen for the click when reconnecting it.

Re: Camshaft PS P0344

May seem random but did you loosen your alternator and bolt it back down tight?

I had a similar issue after doing the same maintenance where the car drove fine but under hard acceleration the cam sensor would through a CEL and put the car in limp mode. Ended up blowing the ECM and was a major pain in the butt.

Re: Camshaft PS P0344

^That's a good point.....

If the sensor code sets right away and quickly, you could unplug the alternator to disable charging and see if the code stays gone...at least that might indicate the charging system has something to do with it

Longshot, but worth a try

Re: Camshaft PS P0344

okay so i changed the camshaft sensor, now my CEL is still saying its that sensor misfire on all cylinders and something about cylinder bank 1 overheat? now im driving and my whole car will jump then it goes into limp mode ( cant rev over 3500) but if i turn it off while im driving wait 5 sec turn it back on it goes off limp mode but about 5 min later it will engage again. does that sould like it could be my ECM or like possitive because its not cheap and i about bought a used engine because its doing that. never heard of limp mode before yesterday. or is there a way to disable limp mode because its not driving rough or anything until limp mode activates. I tried unpluging my battery for 12 hours i tried pulling my fuse for ecm. nothing new. also yes i have replaced my altinator all my plugs ignition coils crank and camshaft sensors fuel pump and im just tiered of buying new parts. do you think my ecm could cause all those codes to be

Re: Camshaft PS P0344

The computer can run in limp mode based off the crank sensor. Due to the less trigger signals from the crank vs the camshaft it will not rev very high to prevent timing errors.

You need reliable camshaft signals to run properly.. Some camshafts wear down and move in and out enough to cause a sensor issue as well as sensor itself going bad can shows up as it warms up.

Very common we see people posting their aftermarket version didn’t help and almost never do we hear about the dealer one being a dud.

Re: timing belt and camshaft sensor

If you're timing belt is loose I hope you're driving it at all or you're asking for trouble. If it is loose it could've easily jumped time by a tooth or two. It wouldn't run well but it would still run, that would throw a fault for camshaft or crankshaft, can't remember which. I wouldn't worry about troubleshooting that until you replace the timing belt/tensioner/water pump.
