Headlights dimmed briefly when you take your foot off the pedal...
Dear all,
I am new to this site. I recently bought a brand new Civic GLi (Australia) after my older Civic had a head on collision with another car. Not my fault though.
My question is: Has anyone experienced a drain in power (ie: the headlights dimmed a little) when you take you foot off the pedal? I get this often and Honda service told me it is quite normal. It can be a bit annoying as I didn't experienced this in my older Civic.
Please let me know.

It's not normal in the US
Maybe it's the reverse of what happens here, like your toilets running backwards.
I'd tell the dealer you want to see it happen on some of the other cars on the lot. They tried to tell me these red blotches on my black door panels were "normal". I said "show me the black interior of that car (pointing to one on the lot), if it is blotchey like mine i'll leave and never bother you again". I had my door panels replaced the very next week.
You have to remember the dealer already has your money, anything he has to do after the sale is taking money out of his pocket in time, labor, etc.. so amazingly everything becomes "normal"

Thanks for the reply! cool.
Yes i know my dealer has the $$. I wonder if i am too picky sometimes. I shall try to tell them about it again. I told the service person about it on my 1000K service, he said it was normal. But then again, i think new car should not have that issue. i didnt detect it on my previous model of civic.
I do like my new civic - more features than before. My last civic did saved me from more injuries done to me at the accident. My air bag popped out and i thought I will never need it. I still miss my other civic. but it is dead....
We dont get Civic Coupe in Australia yet. Do you find most of the newer cars are taller? i prefer a lower car though. But i dont think i will modify anything. I also wish the speakers are better. I think the new speakers are not as good as my previous civic.

Try raising or lowering your power windows at night and see if that affects your headlights. I have owned several hondas and the brightness of the headlights was always affected by things like that. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that it is completely normal.
try buying a deep cycle battery. hondas pull on the battery alot for such a small battery. i had the same problem and i put a deep cycle in and no more problems.

if you have an auto this shouldn't happen. if you have a manual then yeah. Because your RPM's go down when youdepress the clutch the voltage output on your alternator lowers. Iether that or it couold coinside with yur A/C compressor turning on.

Hello all again!
Thanks for all the replies to my post.
While driving home lastnight on a darker street, i still noticed my headlights and interior dash lights dimmed when i take my foot off the accelerator padal. It happens nearly 90% of the time. It is annoying me as i can't stay focus when driving, i will be waiting to see if this dimming will occur eachtime.
My Civic GLi (2002) sedan is an automatic car. I have been thinking, auto car should not have a problem as such. I must agree that if i use the power windows, it will dim the light because of power drain. My car was moving when the dimming occur, it will dim before the tachometer needle drops.
I am convinced to myself that this should not happen. My last Civic GLI didn't have such a problem. I have just rang Honda this morning and arranged for them to have a check. It has to be something with the Alternator. I am not sure if there are adjustments you can tune to output the correct amount of power. Hopefully they wont say it is 'normal' and not fix the problem. This is a new car and i only had my 1000KM service done.
