Hybrid 101

So here's the skinny , we own a tire and towing company and we end up with all of the ( no runs ) from the auto auction next door .
We ended up with a super clean 03 hybrid civic. 1st thing I noticed was the original sell date of early 2015 so it's been sitting , freezing and baking since at least then .
I am pretty good with electrictrical and mechanical systems , part of being good is knowing when to stop and ask .
obviously the main pack is dead along with the IMA light and battery light .
I cut the 2 wires to regain 12v charging and have been driving it off and on for a week .
12v went dead and I pulled it for charge . Got in it tonight and IMA light was off and the charge meter for the 1st time was showing half full , charge ... not battery or assist .
well it went back dark after a few minutes.
We are about to buy a grid charger and check cells but , questions are ...
Do We need to charge each cell first before testing ? Or just pull the stick and some how test them ?
Voltage at the pack when running seems to be around 90v .
Why would it try to come online , show 50% then go dark again ?

Re: Hybrid 101

I'm pretty sure someone has posted abut a grid charger here in the past, search a bit for it

I'd expect whatever charger you purchase should have plenty of instructions or live support for whatever questions you have

If the car sat without anyone ever running it long enough to recharge the IMA batteries on a regular basis (every 30 days), they may be ruined.
As old as it is now, if it were an original battery pack I'd expect it's long overdue for replacement anyway.

IMA battery pack: NiMH
144v (nominal), 6 Ah.
has 20 battery modules in series
each battery module has 6 cells at 1.2v each
