Need Noob Help Replacing A d17a1
PROBLEM:I bought a 2004 civic manual in hopes of replacing engine in it to get it up and running but im not really finding alot of good information
I KNOW I SHOULD HAVE RESEARCHED FURTHER BEFORE BUYING BUT IT IS WHAT IT IS I JUST WANT GET CAR UP AND RUNNING
The Car Is Perfect Other Than The Engine Knocking And Blowing a Rod Through The Oil Pan
I have some minor mechanic knowledge of how fix minor engine problems but i have no type of experience taking an engine out and putting a new one in . I need some knowledge on everything i would need to replace engine with another working engine (Either a extensive how to or some kind of guide )
ALSO WHATS BEST WAYS FIND AN D17A1 ENGINE CHEAPEST AND BEST CONDITION
PLEASE IF ANYONE HAS ANY KIND OF KNOWLEDGE ON THIS MATTER OR EXPERIENCE FEEL FREE TO SHED SOME LIGHT BECAUSE I HAVE NO CLUE WHERE TO START OTHER THAN GETTING SOME OF THE TOOLS NEEDED

Not sure what kind of information your looking for, Get the Haynes manual and turn to the chapter on engine removal..
JDM places generally advertise they are under 60,000 miles, junkyards will vary from 1-500,000 usually if they post a mileage it’s honest as most states require all parts to be trackable to the day/vehicle/ seller the yard got it from.
Taking the time to bag and tag and even diagram where each bolt you take off will do wonders for putting it all back together correctly.

One potential issue on 7th gens that I don't think was a problem on 6th's gen is the location of a/c pipe across/near the top of the valve cover.

he is just swapping another D-series into a D-series car. Only item is the usual VTEC or no VTEC and the non-EX header/exhaust and the O2 sensors. All famous stuff that he could easily find with a quick search in the forums. Otherwise, remove and drop new in.
Re: Need Noob Help Replacing A d17a1
It's usually recommended to replace a few commonly failed items on the newer engine before dropping in, since it'll be easy when the engine is out. This includes timing belt/tensioner, thermostat, spark plugs obviously, head gasket, and maybe a few other items I'm forgetting.
