Smoking and antifreeze spraying everywhere

I have a question regarding my 2004 automatic honda civic. It kept overheating so I brought it to a mechanic. He concluded the fan on the radiator was broke and had to be replaced which is why the car was overheating. He fixed it and since I got it back, there is a lot of white smoke coming out from under the hood now and antifreeze spraying EVERYWHERE out the front grille of my car and even spraying onto my Windshield everytime while I'm driving -- but the temperature gauge doesn't show it is overheating anymore. My mechanic said it was normal to do that for a couple days because he had to bleed out the system to replace the fan. It's been a week and it's still smoking and spraying antifreeze. Could he have damaged something while replacing the radiator fan and what could it be?

Humm well it may not be a fan issue, it is also possible if he replaced the entire radiator that he left a hose loose and it is spraying.

Is it wet coolant you see or dry?

It is fresh wet green coolant spraying out of my grill whenever I drive it.

Re: Smoking and antifreeze spraying everywhere

Right then it should be coming from either the

-radiator cap
-overflow res.
- or top radiator hose.

First you are going to identify which location it is coming form.

How is the rad. level while cold after a hard rip?
and where in the coolant res. level is the coolant sitting at?

how is antifreeze spraying everywhere normal?

chances are its spraying out of your overflow/plastic bottle beside the rad by the battery, if so, your head gasket is blown,

the only reason it stopped overheating is because it got filled back up with antifreeze, give it another few days or a week, it will overheat again sooner or later

My mechanic said he checked my head gasket when I first brought it in for overheating and the head gasket was fine and it was only my fan.

Re: Smoking and antifreeze spraying everywhere

he probably doesn't know how to check properly. these cars have a unique way of failing that causes them to pass all the usual tests.
go read this thread:

https://www.civicforums.com/forums/3...reference.html

it explains how to check properly

this is coming from a guy who thinks coolant spraying on your windshield and all over the engine is "normal"

i think you need to replace more then your head gasket, you need to replace your "mechanic"
