window won't t roll up!!

I have an 04 honda civic lx. One day I rolled the driver side window down, and it just didn't roll up again. I'm not sure what the problem is. All the other windows are fine. I took a 9v battery and hooked it up to the wires that are connected to the switch , but it didn't do anything. It rains here a lot in fl, and my car has been getting soaked! How can I get my window up temporarily while I figure this problem out?

Re: window won't t roll up!!

A tiny 9v battery probably doesn't have enough juice to roll up a window.

Remove door panel, find wires for the window motor, use a car battery and/or jumper wires to connect directly to the window motor?

Re: window won't t roll up!!

I read online that a 9v should do the trick. I'll try that and get back to let you know. Speaker wire should be ok right?

I took speaker wire, and connected it to the 9v, and then took the other end, connected it to the wires that are connected to the window switch. I'll take pics and post them up here.

Anyone please help me!? It rained here and now my car smells like mildew! I don't want to take it to a mechanic, and rather do this myself. I just want the window rolled up for now, until I can have the time to fix it

Re: window won't t roll up!!

You are going to need to feed voltage from the battery..... there is no way a tiny 9V will work.

Re: window won't t roll up!!

I can just wrap speaker wire around it the battery terminals, and stick the other end in the the plug right?
I read that I would have to splice a few wires. That makes me a bit nervous, and rather not have to do something like that

Re: window won't t roll up!!

So I bought a 12 v battery, and connected speaker wire to it. The only thing I could do is rollup and down the right rear window.

It's real apparent you didn't follow this instruction:

You sure 'bout that?

I'm not sure what the problem is.

You need to get inside the door to see what happened to it anyway, right?
And/or test for power and ground at the window motor connector.

If it broke the regulator or the motor is bad, applying power to the motor isn't going to accomplish much.

It rained here and now my car smells like mildew!
Most people with a modicum of faculties would have kept a trash bag or something similar taped over the big open hole to keep rain out.

Now you might be needing to remove the interior to dry out the carpet and dry the padding under the carpet....and try to kill the mildew before it gets worse. BUT no real hurry to get this done, may as well let it go until you can plug the big open hole that lets rain enter the car.
