Hi,

where is my friend ezone.

I got some bent valves. I want to swap d17a2 I found one for 60 bucks it has 100k on the car.

I know mina has d17a1.. which is non vtec, 12 valves.

I am deciding since i need to rebuild this or just put something vtec..

i read all the forums.. everyone says diffrent things.

1) is there a cam for d17a1? performance cam stage 1? thats the 12 valve?

2) if i do the swap , can i keep stock ecu, and run Vafc to control vtec..
will this just needs wiring extra few wires for the solenoid?
any how to with pics?
I am trying to stay away for spending **** load of money for aftermarket ecus, or to have dealer reprogram keys etc. my car has 275k and had 200 compression before the bent valves.

do i need the exhaust out of vtec or ex civic? i saw somewhere you can make it work, someone says u need it? freaking internet is full of hacks..
I am not a hack. this was something to do with the 02 sensors and cats are different places.

i know there is stage 1 cam for d17a2.. question above is for 12 valve.

Ideal solution would be to keep my stock harness and ecu, add few wires etc.. am trying to figure out which one is cost effective and gives me better bang for dollar..
I dont mind spending few dollars more to get vtec-e not the greates still better than 12 valves nonvtec..

I could also rebuild the head if there is cam for it, and do a 3 angle valve job while am at it.. thats the stock non- vtec head..

Any suggestions.. I am not looking to make a huge project i need the car to drive.

A1 and A2 both have 16 valve heads.

The only performance cam I know of is for the A2 (VTEC) head.
Find any post by sdaidoji and click the cam link in his signature.

Swap the head only? I'd hope the controller folks could supply you with all that info you need.

Swapping the whole engine, there are probably several different ways to go about it, and I'm sure each way will have some headaches to sort out.

I personally try to stick to fixing stock cars, that's my bread and butter.

Hmmm..
I have an 04 Acura 1.7 El (canadian) It has all (the few) perf bits that Honda fits OEM.
Vtec , bars, 4 whl discs etc
Power is Ok ..IF.. you Step on it's Tail and rev it to redline.
Otherwise it's keep up with traffic power.
Hey! It's NOT a perf car.
Want a faster one? Buy one, it's easier And Much cheaper.
Not being snarky.. just true.
I also have Saab 9000 that Boosts to ~20 psi on demand. It Goes!
Surprising most all Porsche Carreras
Completely different animal though.
Cheap to buy used too :-)

Sticky thread on the cam popped up today

Use a Honda Dealer head gasket.
People have complained here about fel-pro gaskets failing too soon (only lasting a couple years is way too soon in my book)

From the Honda dealer you can buy a kit that includes valve stem seals, or you can buy individual gaskets to do the job (and you need to be able to pick out what all gaskets you want, as few parts people will know what would be needed to do the job).

Not an advanced engine performance, rather a screwed my engine. Moving to correct section.

Why people think this is the right section for engine troubles is beyond me...
