Five years ago I had my Honda 83 Civic 1500 engine replaced with a jasper rebuilt engine. The mechanic who replaced it told me he failed to move the plate under the oil filter over to the new engine so the filter might leak. He said to use a 1994 oil filter instead because it fit better than the old 83 filters. That is without the oil filter plate in place.

Does such a part actually exist?. Other engines I know have a round plate under the filter but does the honda engine have one. 1983 I mean. I can try to find a used one someplace ie junkyard/carparts.com.

if you havnt had an issue in 5 years, why are you concerned about it now? is there a leak?

I'm looking in 'Ye Olde Part And Piece Catalogues' here....all I see is the threaded tube the oil filter screws to. I don't see anything I'd call a plate.

Am I not thinking of the correct item?

Could he have been referring to some exhaust pipe support?

It may not exist. Some engines have a round plate, under the pipe and filter, that goes on first with gaskets and the filter fastens flush to that. Perhaps civic has none.
