04 civic AT can shift but will not engage
So I was pulling out of my driveway and stopped for 10 seconds
and when I gave it gas to move it didnt move at all but it would not go into Park
It will make a grinding noise. And the rpms will go up to 3k
Also speedometer will move like if it is actually running.
Can anyone please tell me if this has happened to you? Or tell me what to do or could be wrong I need it fixed asap since its my only ride

I missed this post somehow?
Axle problem of some sort.
Broke an axle, broke a CV joint, or an axle pulled out of the transmission.

No I haven't had anybody take a look at it.
I recently replaced the motor could it be that the cv was not pushed back in correctly? And it came off?
Right now driving a loaner ride. Im glad gas is cheap lol

Jack up the car, inspect visually and pull on each axle by hand at point near the differential. A properly installed axle will have a slight in + out motion when pull on but, one that has popped out could be visually evident and when pulled on will have a lot of play.

Ok guys sorry it took me so long to reply back. I've been busy at
work. So I did find passenger side axle popped out. So I installed it back it putt everything back together,
I took it for a test drive and I didn't made it to my neighbor s house when it did
the same thing again. What would be the chances of the snap ring to
pop off the axle? Or what else could be causing that?
Thanks for all the help!

If you can push it in until it clicks in place, try prying it back out to see how tight the snap ring is holding the CV joint in.
If it comes apart TOO easy, that's a problem.
If it does not click in and slides right out, that's a bigger problem.
Pull that axle all the way out of the trans, see if the snap ring is intact.
See if it sheared off the end of the splines at the snap ring groove.
If there is no groove or snap ring left on the tip of that axle, you have a huge problem.
What work was done to it before this new issue happened?

Re: 04 civic AT can shift but will not engage
OP.. I installed a new one a few months ago, didn't knock it in far enough and it slipped out. Fortunately, the snap ring was still attached (as Ezone mentioned) and it just had a bit of wear at the tip of the distal splines. I took it back to Advance and they replaced it no questions asked and they said I'm still entitled to two repalcements under their limited lifetime warranty. I installed the second one as shown in the video and haven't had any issues since (3k miles ago). I hope you purchased new and not remanufactured. I also hope you resolve this soon and at a low cost.
