Metal support behind hood latch snapped -- can't shut hood!
So my son was messing around with the hood latch and somehow managed to break the metal it attaches to.
Not any part of the latch itself, but the metal column that it attaches to -- snapped at one of the bolt holes for hood latch.
Unfortunately it looks to be part of the engine bay body . . . not a piece I can buy and bolt a new one in.
How on Earth am I going to fix this??

If it's what I think it is (the actual hood latch, that is) you can buy that piece.

#5 on the drawing, $16.34 + shipping ($28.14 after shipping) at Majestic Honda. Chances are it'll run you at least $35 + tax at the dealer, but they'll have it overnighted.

Unfortunately not the hood latch, but the column that the hood latch attaches to. The bolt in my picture is #39 on your diagram, the piece immediately behind the bolt is the hood latch, and then behind that is the snapped metal :-/

Took some more pictures to clarify.
This whole column is what the hood latch attaches, and is what cracked. The bolt is up underneath where the red arrow is:

Other than getting a replacement piece from a salvage yard, you could possibly:
A) Tack weld the broken piece back in.
B) Forget the latch and just use hoodpins.
C) Rivet in a threaded flange

D) Use a washer and a jack nut.
Good luck.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

A chunk of angle iron, a drill, and some nuts and bolts?
