squealing under hood 2004 honda civic

squealing under hood 2004 honda civic
Been having squealing problem under hood that seems to be around alternator belt for over year. Belts are fine & squeal only lasts for couple seconds & may come & go 3 or 4 times a day but is nuisance. Friend said where i had underside of hood done with rustproofing it leaked from there on belts, but that was done over a year ago & i cleaned off what i could but it still persists. 2004 honda civic 1.7 lit motor. Could my alternator be problem? Thanks BOB
