Help identify part in head gasket set

Mystery for you all. I bought a Fel-pro head gasket set for my 7th gen and it came with something I don't recognize.

See the attached picture and look at the metal flange / ring in the red circle.

Anyone know what that is, or where it goes?

Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Help identify part in head gasket set

Just noticed, there is a piece missing in the kit pictured. My kit came with a copper flange / donut that I am pretty certain goes from my exhaust manifold to my exhaust. That copper flange does not appear to be pictured in the attached picture. The piece I have circled, is similar in shape, but slightly smaller, and polished metal, not copper.

Re: Help identify part in head gasket set

Red circle looks like an O ring??.....
Could be for the water pipe across the back of the block or maybe a distributor if it had one.

I would not go looking for where it goes though.
If you take apart something and need it, there ya go.
If you don't take apart anything that needs it, then it's an extra.

Is it listed on the back of the box? Boxed kits can cover more than JUST your car/engine combo.

Thanks guys. Its not listed on the packaging. I think it has something to do with the exhaust further down than I am headed. I will take your advice and not worry about it.

part 21 maybe? I know I had to pry the pipe out of the back of the water pump when I did mine. I removed the head with the water pump still on it when I did mine. the gasket kit I ordered had an o-ring to replace the one on the end of the pipe.

Thanks drhawkinz, but that's not it. I had similar trouble getting that pipe out of there as well.

I've attached a higher res image of the part, but not going to worry about it for now. Will still give kudos if someone knows what it is though

Re: Help identify part in head gasket set

Good pic sure helps.

Exhaust donut.

It's the gasket for a spring-loaded exhaust joint.

I think that goes between the exhaust manifold and cat converter. interesting that it came with the head gasket kit.
