Timing Belt kit/Gates or DNJ?
Timing Belt kit/Gates or DNJ?
Looking to purchase a timing belt kit from RockAuto, so far I have come across 2 kits which have been rated very well, one is Gates and DNJ, now the DNJ kit seems to have more parts in the kit, Gates seems to have less parts but it is a complete kit. DNJ carries a 12 month warranty, Gates, well limited Lifetime. My good friend who happens to be an ASE certified mechanic and I will be tackling the job. I'm just undecided on which kit to order so I wanted to get some opinions on this matter... This is for a 04 Honda Civic LX with 180K miles Forgot to mention that these kits come with the water pump and they are priced as follows...
DNJ ENGINE COMPONENTS Part # TBK220WP {#TBK220M} Set One of our most popular parts $72.79
GATES Part # TCKWP312 {#WPK41115} PowerGrip Premium OE Timing Belt Component Kit W/Water Pump; 3 Components (1 Belt, 1 Tensioner, 1 Water Pump) One of our most popular parts $73.79
Thanks

Re: Timing Belt kit/Gates or DNJ?
Most people are gonna say spend the extra money and go OEM. Just my 2 cents.
All you really need:
Timing belt
Water pump (with o-ring)
Tensioner (with spring)
Looks like the DNJ kit comes with cam seal, crank seal, what seems to be an EGR gasket, some random o-ring, as well as the 3 main parts you actually need for the job.
I'll let other people chime in with their opinions on non-oem parts though.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
