Question Can't push out lower ball joint

Hey everyone:

I am trying to push out the lower ball joint on the front passenger side of my 2004 SI. As you can see from the pic:

I am using a tie rod end puller to put pressure on the bottom of the bolt leading out of the ball joint. I have winged it down as much as I can and nothing is budging.

I also tried hitting it on the end with a hammer.
Nothing.

Any advice?

I removed the castle nut from the end of the ball joint. Is there anything else that is holding it in place?

Thanks,
Neil

I used a ball joint separator from AutoZone first:

It was no help. That is why I tried other options.

My biddy figured it would help loosen things up to give it some impact.
That also did nothing.

LOL *dead*
On a side side note....those impacts may have warped the hole and gripped the bolt down even further.

Yes, ball joint separator should work when you smack it in.
There's nothing else holding it in other than the nut, and cotter pin.
Well, maybe rust and gunk.

Soak it with PBblaster and give it another shot.
Mine happened to just pop out with 1 hit of the hammer from the bottom of the bolt.

Re: Can't push out lower ball joint

Once you remove the nut, the only thing that holds the stud of the joint in the arm is the interference fit of the tapered shaft and hole.

I just smack the side of the part with the hole, which would be the lower control arm in this case.

Occasionally I use the method shown in pics 7, 8, and 9 in this DIY link. It does work well, IF it works. Sometimes it just doesn't work, then I beat the snot out of it.

Sometimes having an assistant apply pressure with a prybar is helpful.

If the pickle fork is the wrong size it may not work.

Also, at one time this was like $14 on sale at Horrid Fright tools:
