weird lighting issue

ok guys. i have an 03 EX coupe. i have the weirdest thing going on with my lights!

ok, so picture this: i turn on my headlights. normally, your amber parking lights come on, but on mine, on one side an amber light comes on, and on the other side, a DRL comes on. ive checked the plugs, and they arent interchangeable. all the lights function like they are supposed to, except when the parking lights are supposed to be on. the blinker functions, the flasher functions, but the DRL is on instead of the amber bulb when they are "idle".

any suggestions? ive tried to look it up online, but i cant find anything similar.

By DRL you mean the small circular light in the center of the headlight?
By amber bulb, do you mean the side marker that doubles as a turn signal?
Is your car Canadian-built or US?
US vehicles don't have DRLs for that year and the parking lights (the small round lights in the middle) and side markers turn on at the same time when you turn the lights on to either of the two settings.

Re: weird lighting issue

as a side note, i bought the car like this. therefore, i have no idea what caused it. also, im not aware of any electrical modifications done, although, obviously, its possible.

Re: weird lighting issue

It's all good. The most likely answer is that the left parking light bulb is out and the right side marker as well. The side marker is a dual-filament bulb like your headlights, so the always-on filament may have burned out. An easy way to test this would be to switch the bulbs around (you have to access them through the wheel wells) and note which ones work.

That's what I figured, but gosh Texas sure sounds warmer than Canada right now; I wouldn't blame anyone for wanting to move south!

Re: weird lighting issue

do you really think its as easy as a filament burned out? the blinker functions just fine.

are all 4 bulbs supposed to light up when you turn on the lights?

Re: weird lighting issue

Yes and I think so. (I know all 4 should be on with park lights.)

Keep it simple,

Re: weird lighting issue

omg, thank you so much. ive had this car for over a year, and ive had this problem the whole time. when i couldnt figure it out, i took it to a shop. when they couldnt figure it out, i took it to the stealership. they gave it back to me, obviously unfixed. so, just like the window lock button on a coupe, im glad im just feeling like a dumbass instead of something a lot more serious/expensive.

Fixed.
