screeking noise wheel?

Just wondering if someone has any ideas what could be the problem with my civic.

Its a 2004 standard all stock DX model. started making a screaching noise when i start moving or coming to a stop. it seems to be coming from the far back right corner of the car. i took the wheel off and spinned it by hand by no noise. i pushed on the trunk of the car and could hear this screaking noise again. almost sonds like rusty or loose part is grinding or something.

Anyone has any suggestions or ideas. should i take it in?

Thanks

If you repeatedly work your parking brake on and off while parked do you hear the noise ??

Re: screeking noise wheel?

Yes, either would give same results. The 7th gens can make chirping/squeeking noise from rear brakes where the [ portion of the shoes rub against the backing plate.

You get the noise when letting off the brakes, or releasing parking brake.

Re: screeking noise wheel?

If I tap the brake pedal or ebrake nothing happens. I notice the noise is happening when i start driving or coming to a stop. it usually screeks more if there are some bumps or uneven road. It really feels like something is loose! i could be wrong but i cant hear the noise as much when driving above 30-40 kms. ocasional screek here and there but much louder if im moving at slower speed.

Re: screeking noise wheel?

Rock trapped in the brakes?

Have you identified which area or corner of the car the noise is coming from? (Stick your head out the window if you have to!)

Maybe have someone else drive it slowly while you stand outside and listen to where it is loudest as it rolls by

Jack up that wheel and spin it, see if the noise is present

Then maybe inspect the brakes in that corner?

Re: screeking noise wheel?

I really dont know any more what it can be! This morning the noise was so loud, like a cranking clicking sound coming from the far back passenger side. I kept driving the car for about 2-3 min at 20km/hr and the noise wasnt going anywhere then when i sped up its stopped, completely disappeared. And now it doesnt make noise at all.... not sure whats up with that maybe there was a rock trapped in there some place or something fell back into its place? Either way im going to keep an eye and ear on it and see what will happen.

I also took the wheel off and turned it by hand by there was no noise.

Re: screeking noise wheel?

Welp my screeking noise is back! back with a vengeance lol

It usually screeches real bad first thing in a morning when i start driving. After driving the car it goes away and usually doesnt make any noise at all when i just drive on highway. Also if i push on my trunk it screeks real bad.

Annnd I also noticed after driving in the snow the noise disappears like something gets lubricated or something???

Have someone do this while you crawl under the car and start looking (listening with a stethoscope maybe?)

Water can do this.
