strange noise from the front suspension
strange noise from the front suspension
Not sure, if my 02 Civic LX is asking for a heated garage in this arctic cold weather !
i heat the car for about 15 mins before i drive in the morning & the 2-3 days when the weather way under 0F, i hear some noise coming out of the suspension. Mostly from the left side. The car (suspension) makes noise while making a turn or if go over a bump or a pothole. Does any kind of oiling helps ? I recently crashed my 2002 Civic & bought this about 15 days ago. So, pretty new with the car & its history. Tha car now has 132k miles...

Re: strange noise from the front suspension
Oh the pleasures of an unknown car.....I think I live in the only place in North America right now that isn't cold...just had to rub that in a bit.
So before you bought it you inspected it right?
Could be any of your front suspension parts. Tight turning noise could be CV joints, could be LCA bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, upper control arm bushings...you should either inspect all of that or have someone do it for you. That being said.....
I had to replace my upper control arms last spring (ball joint/bushing) and every little bump I hit sounded terrible because the upper control arm bushings were shot. I also have this very weird condition in the fall where my lower control arm bushings 'squeak' right around 0C but not above or below that temp. I took them all apart and greased the bushings and it made a big difference but still had some squeaking around 0C. Take a good sized bar (like a big screw driver) and place it under your lower ball joint and see if there's up/down play, same with the tie rod end.
If I had to guess it's probably your upper control arm bushings though and they are easiest to replace yourself as the entire upper control arm which will include the upper ball joint.

Re: strange noise from the front suspension
7th gen civic doesn't have upper control arm in the front, only a lower. If the noise is coming from the front I would suspect the strut mounts. They can make noise while going over bumps and are a common part to go bad with mileage.
I would inspect the ball joint (only lower) for excessive play.
