Help testing lock actuator
Help testing lock actuator
How can i use my multimeter to test both the wires to the door lock actuator and the actuator itself? Im not sure if im testing for power, ground or continuity.

Re: Help testing lock actuator
Super simple check: connect a 12v light bulb (test light) to the two wires. If it lights up every time you flip the switch in each direction, then that confirms there is both power and ground on the two wires.
A cheap #194 bulb has 2 convenient wires you can bend down and stick in some socket terminals

If you are using a voltmeter, connect 1 meter lead to each of the 2 wires, and check for any voltage reading when you operate the switch. Flip it one way and you should get a 12v reading (positive or negative).....flip it the other way and you should get the opposite reading (reverse polarity makes the actuator run the other direction.)
