I replaced my fuel pump, screen, and regulator which all reside in the fuel tank. Car runs "OK", but is hard to start and the throttle response seems off. I adjusted the throttle cable as well. I removed the fuel rail and inspected the fuel injectors. Soaked the injectors overnight in injector cleaner and then blew out. Replaced all 8 injector O-rings. There's this UFO looking thing on the fuel rail that I took apart and cleaned. Car started right up after I put everything back together for a few miles then went back to hard starting poor throttle response. What is that thing please?
Thanks for any help on this.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

What is the fuel pressure now?
What does the fuel pressure do when you punch the gas pedal?
Any codes?
What is the ECT reading on a scanner datalist, is it accurate?
What is MAP voltage at hot idle, in neutral, all loads turned of?
Fuel trim values now?
Camshaft hasn't jumped time?

The fuel pressure regulator is part of the fuel pump assembly.

Again, this could be easily proven or disproven with a simple fuel pressure test....

I'm starting to think I jumped a tooth.
How hard is it to change out the timing belt. I attempted to do it a year ago then chickened out when I got to having to remove that big sprocket. I didn't have the tool, so I just put it all back together. Belt's never been replaced. I'm at about 187,000 miles now. I have the Haynes book I got from Autozone. Where can I get that sprocket tool?
Renting one would be better!

My two cents:
1) Buy a service manual. Haynes has better pictures and just enough content to get yourself in trouble.
2) Check the fuel pressure? Why not just check it and put that one to bed?
3) Check the battery (IMO).
4) Timing belt should be changed if you have gone that many miles without a new one - you are gambling with your engine. Change camshaft seal, water pump, crankshaft seal, and other belts when you do it. If I can get the pulley bolt off, anyone can. Tons of people on this site that can help guide you through it. Also, look up ericthecarguy timing belt on youtube.
