What is this noise
What is this noise
It doesn't make the noise at idle. It only does it at that certain throttle range probably 3,000rpms ( I don't have a tach)
Hasn't gotten worse or better no metal flakes in the oil and engine has had mobil1 by the previous owner it's whole life. The inside of the engine is spotless. When cold there isn't a noise as it warms up it gets more noticeable and when it fully warms up its the loudest. Car runs great plugs look great. Removing the coil one at a time off each cylinder didn't change the noise and its not in the accessories. Any idea?
Thanks all

You need to be revving the RPM up and down with your hand on the throttle or its cable (exactly like you were doing in the videos so the noise is at its most apparent) while you disconnect each coil.
One will make the most difference in the noise.
The difference may be subtle.
The noise will probably get a little quieter when you get to the offending cylinder.
Or hold the throttle steady by hand at whatever PRM the noise is loudest, while you try each coil.

Re: What is this noise
The noise didn't sound HORRIBLE in the video, but I can't hear it in person.
The engines are not exactly quiet to begin with.
If it is not getting worse, then I'd probably just live with it and keep the oil right.

Re: What is this noise
I revved it up from the engine and did everything you said already. Just took the video like this so it was easier to hear without the interfering noises. Disabling each cylinder at a time made no difference even when revving.
What do you mean these engines arent known to be quiet? Is noise like this common? Why are they loud?

Re: What is this noise
Don't worry about it if it's not getting any worse as ezone pointed out. I have the exact same noise and have had it for years now. You actually went one step further and pulled the coils, which I never did. The good thing is you discovered it's probably not rod knock or a problem with any one cylinder. Check out my video below. Sounds identical to yours, but it doesn't really sound like yours until after about the 1 minute mark. And I have taken exceptional care of this car since I bought it brand new 11 years ago with 33 miles on it. It now has a little over 89k on it.
I hope this makes you feel better.

Seems like certain noises just get picked up and amplified by microphones and recordings. Makes it hard to evaluate all but the very worst of the noises.
Definitely not the same as hearing the noises in person.

Re: What is this noise
I have a great headset and could instantly hear his and it sounded just like mine. I know you always complain about your crappy laptop speakers, so I can understand it would be harder for you to hear.
Re: What is this noise
That noise your car made was text book exactly the same as mine when it started stopped how it is faint at certain times and when it does each change in noise was all the same?
Now any idea what it is? Guess no real reason to worry. But still curious as to what it is. Im surprised honda with such high quality standards would sound like this to....

Re: What is this noise
Nope. No idea what the noise is, but it's been like that for at least 3 to 4 years now. Hasn't gotten any worse. I have changed the oil regularly since I've owned it, so I know it's not an oil issue. Hell, I go six months between oil changes and never see the oil level go below where I filled it to begin with. If it burns oil, I can't ever tell.

Re: What is this noise
had the same noise.. stayed quiet for a while.. then it got worse.. stayed steady for a little while longer, then got worse.. Now I'm just waiting til the semester's over to swap the bottom end of my engine. Had one lying around from a spare engine I bought a while back, but had no means of swapping in.
Here's what mine sounded like back in March

Re: What is this noise
I discovered mine when I was using 10w-30 oil. Sounded exactly the same. I switched back to 5w-20 about a year ago and it still sounds the same.
I've heard riceboys video before and think his sounds different from your's and mine. His sounds like it could be isolated to one cylinder possibly where as your's and mine sound like it's all cylinders in unison. And maybe it's just the difference in sound quality from his video and ours.
