Yo Yo Yo transmission jolting/car jerking high

Yo yo yo I bought this 2002 civic ex coupe automatic tranny last month and I'm experiencing some jerking when the gear is shifting. There are times when accelerate, after coming to a complete stop, I get up to 3-4 rpms on the tachometer and I'm not even going 10 mph! The engine gets really loud and sometimes there's a burnt smell that comes through the vents. I've got a feeling that the previous owner was a dookiehole because that **** is dinged up damage to trunk, came with 170000+ miles, electrical problems I had to replace damn near every bulb, air filter was crazy dirty, small dents. Overall the previous owner did not give that beauty the well deserved upkeep it is intitled to. So what do you guys think? Replace trans fluid, tune up, or is my transmission in serious poop?

well at this point there is no harm in replacing the fluid,

you will probably have to do 3-4 drain and fills to make sure you get it all out, use honda OEM fluid only!

on a side note, you should have expected something like this, people who do not take care of the outside of their car are not likely to maintain the engine/tranny very well either

From the sound of what you described, Mikey is right..
It seems like there was very little regular maintenance done to the car.
You're gonna have to do most of it. Spend away!

Cool do you guys know if lube pros will change my trans fluid if I hand them the ATF that I bought? I've always gone to them for motor oil changes but never for trans fluid replacement, do they do that there?

personally i would not trust a lube shop to do this....

i would do it myself or have a honda dealership do it,

also, a lube shop is not likely to use honda oem fluid either

He has 170k mi which is high mileage for a tranny fluid change? Have your tranny thoroughly checked out for torque converter & other parts to see if its damaged. If you will change now & later find its still not working right you may have to re-build the transmission anyways.
I recommend using Valvoline High Mileage TransFluid.

Alright I'm going to attempt to change the fluid myself. How many liters should I put in?

assuming the tranny is full now, the same amount that you drain out
