Will this exhaust throw a check engine
Will this exhaust throw a check engine
If i put a header and this pipe on, would it cause a check engine light to be thrown? It replaces the cat converter so i'm assuming it does.

I have no idea what an "O2 sensor insertion" is but i'm assuming you can buy wiring extenders and put your O2 sensor there.

Re: Will this exhaust throw a check engine
My exhaust on my 04 EX is shot, so instead of replacing everything with OEM parts, i would save a few hundred and go aftermarket. I'm not looking for more power or sound, just inexpensive replacements. If i picked up a couple hp, cool, but that's not the motivation.

i'm confused bro. so your downpipe is shot? you do realize that is only like a 3.5 foot part of the exhaust system and not the full exhaust, right?
on the EX
there is a header, which looks like this

which is connected to the downpipe, which you posted.
which connects to the catalytic converter, which looks like this 9but this is an after market high flow)

which is connected to the stock exhaust including the muffler.
you must use a cat. to have no CEL. as well the cat. most have the bunt hole (the place where your 02 sencor is housed) in the middle of the two cat. plates. these plates turn C0 into CO2.
if you place the O2 sensor in the wrong place (before or after the cat.) you will through a CEL.
there are ways to trick the O2 sensor if you need to.
so what exactly is broken? if it's just the down pipe you can get one made at any exhaust shop for pretty cheap, it's just a bent pipe. if it's your cat. they run $100 for a new after market high flow.

Re: Will this exhaust throw a check engine
The downpipe flange is actually shot. I'm not sure which side....downpipe or catback that the studs are welded to, but one side is definitely going to be replaced. I'm actually pulling the motor out because the head gasket is leaking, so i figured what better time to do a header. I dont think aftermarket headers/downpipes would bolt up to a stock catback, so i figured i would do a full exhaust. With the price of ebay headers and the ebay downpipe, it would probably be worth while.
But to answer your question, yes only a small piece of my exhaust is bad, now. The entire thing isn't in good shape though.
And back to my original question, will that pipe cause the CEL to go on?

Re: Will this exhaust throw a check engine
as far as i'm aware it won't, because this is an exhaust O2 sensor. i wouldn't think the computer would start changing things because the exhaust sensor was giving false info. now if you were trying to trick the MAP sensor, the one that tels the ecu how much air was going to the engine, and how much fuel to add, then you'd have issues. but i'm not 100% on that.
there's this way, but you'd still have to have a bunt whole on the down pipe, if it replaces the cat., because this extends the sensor away from the gas emissions, making the sensor think the levels of CO are lower, but there are still gasses, i'm not sure but i think if it picks up no gas it will also through a CEL, so you can't just unscrew it.
